A Life Well-Lived

SHREVEPORT - Mrs. Carolyn Lombardino Bat-
tarbee, age 83, passed away peacefully on May 26,

2025, surrounded by her loving family. A devoted
wife, treasured mother, beloved grandmother, and
great-grandmother, Carolyn lived a life marked by
love, service, and unwavering dedication to those
she held dear.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025,
from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Osborn Funeral

Home in Shreveport. A funeral mass will be cele-
brated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church

on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., officiated
by The Very Rev. Msgr. Rothell Price. Interment will follow at Rose-Neath
Cemetery in Bossier City.
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana on January 8, 1942, Carolyn was the daughter
of Pasquale “Buddy” Lombardino and Lucille Waldrip Lombardino. She
met Dr. Harold Battarbee, a professor at the LSU Medical Center during
a party she hosted. They married on December 27, 1997, and shared 28
wonderful years together.
A proud graduate of Louisiana State University, Carolyn devoted more
than 25 years to educating and inspiring young minds in the South Bossier
City school system. Her dedication to teaching and her deep love for children
earned her numerous honors, including the prestigious title of Louisiana
Teacher of the Year. She was also an active member and past president of
Kappa Kappa Iota (KKI), a professional organization for educators.
Family was always at the center of Carolyn’s life. A talented homemaker,
she brought her loved ones together through joyful holiday celebrations,
festive meals, and cherished traditions—such as the annual gingerbread house
building and vibrant Easter gatherings with her children and grandchildren.
In retirement, Carolyn remained fully engaged in her community and
the causes she loved. She was an enthusiastic member of several social and
service organizations, including the Red Hat Society and the Shreveport
Yacht Club. At the Yacht Club, she was a key contributor to both the Youth
Sailing Program and the Potluck Dinner events.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Pasquale (Buddy) and
Lucille Lombardino. She is survived by her loving husband, Harold. She
is also survived by her five children from her previous marriage to John
Mercer: Dr. John Mercer Jr. and wife Tara, Jeffrey Mercer, Patrick Mercer and
wife Colleen, Aimee Hudson and husband Kendrick, and Rene’ Whitlock
and husband Kevin; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, who
were the light of her life. She also leaves behind her siblings: Dianne Farr
and husband Eugene, Betty Deville and husband James, and her brother
Patrick Lombardino.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons Collin Jach, Johnathan Hasty, Jack
Mercer, William Mercer, Charles Whitlock, and Kane Whitlock. The family
requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to St. Elizabeth Ann
Seaton Catholic Church in Shreveport.
